Holidays in Denmark: Merry Christmas from Minnie and I

Christmas is upon us and it’s time to hunker down, forget about exams for a while and just enjoy cozy times with the family.

This Christmas, I made the long overland journey from my current home in Aberdeen to my family’s home in Denmark along with my little rescue dog, Minnie. Unfortunately, I’ve been spending the majority of my time staring at my laptop, writing essays and dissertation chapters, but I’m thankful that I at least get to do this while being surrounding by people and animals I love. But today is Christmas Eve so it is time for a break. Stressed as I am with my dissertation, I just want to enjoy this day, go for long walks and spend quality time with my family.

When Minnie and I first arrived home on December 2nd, a blanket of snow laid over the entire country. I set my alarm to early o’clock to take Minnie out for a sunrise walk, and it was the perfect choice as it was snowing heavily during our entire walk!

We spent hours walking to all my favourite places in my hometown, photographing all the beautiful scenes along the way. Minnie was off leash for most of the walk and she absolutely loved it. She’s definitely a winter girl like her mama!

Later in the day, Minnie and I headed out again with my mum to enjoy the snowscape in evening colours.

Unfortunately, that was the only good snowfall we had this month, and it was all gone within a week as temperatures rose quite dramatically. I’m so thankful that I got to experience it though – snow in Denmark is quite rare these days, so I always try to make the most of it whenever we get a sprinkling!

The church bells are ringing so now it’s time to close the laptop and make the most of my favourite day of the year.

Dear Reader, I wish you a very merry Christmas 🤎

Sweet dreams of holly and ribbon
Mistakes are forgiven
And everything is icy and blue
And you would be there too.
Under the mistletoe
Watching the fire glow
And telling me, “I love you”
