In March 2015, I watched my first ever total solar eclipse in the Faroe Islands during my first ever solo journey. Unfortunately, the weather was very Faroese that day and clouds covered the totality stage. Inspired by two eclipse chasers that I met during my travels there, I immediately decided to book a trip to Indonesia for the total solar eclipse of 2016. I just had to see totality now that I’d been so close.

So the following year, I flew to Indonesia by myself and chose the unknown island of Pulau Belitung as my eclipse destination. There, I met two other travellers with whom I spent three days exploring the island and seeking out the perfect place to view the eclipse. The day came and there was not a single cloud to be seen. It was perfect, and I finally got to see totality!

The total solar eclipse in Indonesia had me hooked, so I decided to travel to the United States for the Great American Eclipse of 2017. Together with my friend Amanda, I travelled from west to east along the old Route 66, and we found our eclipse spot near Makanda in Illinois. There, we witnessed another full total solar eclipse with no clouds to be seen.

So far, the eclipse in the US was my last, but I still dream of witnessing the phenomenon again. It’s the most awe-inspiring wonder I have ever seen!
