We were told that we had gotten lucky with the snow. After only three days on the islands, a snow storm blew in over the country, covering every bit of every island in a beautiful blanket of white.
Usually it never stays for long on the Faroe Islands. They have snowstorms often, but it’s rare that the snow actually stays on the ground. It was mesmerizing to look at. I loved seeing some of my favourite places completely covered in snow. We felt very lucky, as it just made the country even more beautiful (if that’s even possible).
During my 11 days there, we travelled for many kilometres through the islands of Streymoy, Eysturoy, Nólsoy and Vágar. We saw many of the ‘famous’ places, as well as several new places that I hadn’t yet been to. Most of the days, we were driving on icy roads, looking up at mountains covered in snows and villages full of Christmas lights.
This November trip to the Faroe Islands was the perfect start to the upcoming Christmas season. Here are some of my favourite pictures from the magical winter wonderland of the Faroe Islands, located far up in the North Atlantic Ocean. Maybe THIS is where Santa Claus lives?
