Faroe Islands

Back from a week on the Faroe Islands

It’s hard to imagine that a place on Earth can be THAT beautiful. A place completely tree-less with more sheep than people. A place so untouched and so remote that almost wherever you go, you have it all to yourself.

This place is the Faroe Islands. A magical set of 18 islands located in the far North Atlantic that have yet to be discovered by the world. I feel privileged to have explored this country not just once, but three times now. But that could never be enough for me. I feel a constant longing towards this small place on Earth. If there was one place that I could choose to travel to for the rest of my life, this would be it.

Many people tell me that I’m strange for wanting to visit the Faroe Islands so often, and most don’t understand my obsession with the country. But these are only the people who have not yet experienced the magic for themselves. Everyone should get a chance to visit the most beautiful place on Earth – I will forever be grateful for the time that I have spent there, with the people who have made it so special for me.

For the past week, I’ve been spending all of my time exploring new areas, revisiting some of my favourite places, visiting the families and friends who I had missed so dearly and I even made a new friend, who quickly became my hiking buddy. I’ve been wandering through rugged land, breathing in the fresh air, drinking the cleanest water from the top of the mountains and taking in the most beautiful views that my eyes will ever see.

This was my third visit on the Faroe Islands and I saw so much this time around. Apart from a few foggy and windy days, I was lucky to have sunny weather – some times it was even a bit too warm! That was a rare experience on the Faroe Islands.

Once again, I’ve had a great time on the Faroe Islands – and once again, I can honestly say that this was not the last time!

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing my experiences here on Northtrotter, so stay tuned and let me inspire you to make Faroe Islands your next destination.
