As a child, I loved Spanish music and the Spanish language, so even before I ever set foot there, I called Spain my favourite country. Visiting it was a big dream of mine, and in autumn 2014, that dream finally came true when I travelled with a friend to Mallorca for Sharkiecon – an event for fans of Black Milk Clothing! It was an incredible experience. We also got to explore the lively party scene in Magaluf and take a memorable day trip to the charming village of Pollença.
The following year, I returned to Spain with my family for a summer holiday in Malgrat de Mar. We spent two weeks mostly relaxing in the sun. While I’m not a fan of that kind of holiday, I loved the days when we went out to explore. We took day trips to Barcelona and Girona – the latter instantly becoming one of my favourite cities – and even ventured into the tiny country of Andorra.
As the years passed, my dream of truly discovering Spain only grew stronger. The country is incredibly diverse, and I felt I’d barely scratched the surface. So, in the summer of 2019, I finally returned for two weeks to explore Andalusia, with a few days in Madrid and Bilbao as well. One of my favourite days was in Ayamonte, near the Portuguese border, where I visited a statue of my childhood hero, María Isabel. I also fell in love with Bilbao, a city that beautifully showcases the stunning Basque Country.
