Sunsets are magical and one of my favourite things to see while travelling. And since I was in Ilulissat, one of the most beautiful places in Greenland, I simply couldn’t miss a good sunset over the enormous icebergs.
On our second day in the city, the weather had been perfect throughout the day, so we figured it was a good day to go for a little sunset hike. We chose to go to Radiofjeldet, a small mountain which is locally known as the best sunset spot in town.
It’s an extremely short and easy hike to get up there, starting by the dog center near all the other marked trails. From there, we found a spot where it was easy to get up on the mountain and then just started walking to the top, where we found the old heliport which proved to be the perfect platform to watch the sunset.
The sun had already started to set, but before settling to watch it, I wanted to also see the city from above. So I walked to a large cairn, where the view over the city was absolutely breathtaking with the houses bathed in orange light from the setting sun.
The three others soon followed, along with three dogs that had found their way to us, and from that spot, we watched the sun set over the icefjord, painting the sky a beautiful pastel pink. It was a magical moment.
