Paragliding over Lima

On one of our last days in Lima, Luise, Amalie, Christine and I decided to say our goodbyes to Lima in the best way possible, by paragliding over Miraflores!

We walked to the paragliding spot by the ocean after work and immediately got in as there weren’t many in line. The adventure cost 260 soles, which I found quite expensive for a 10-minute flight. I was in doubt whether or not to join the three girls because of the price, but after thinking about it, I remembered what I usually say to other people – you’ll never regret something you decide to do, but you might regret not doing it.

My instructor was very friendly and made me feel comfortable despite the fact that he literally had my life in his hands. After getting on the gear, we set off over the cliffs of Miraflores and into the air. Of course, the first thing I noticed was a dog doing a numero dos on the cliffs, haha! The rest of the trip had me in awe of the views of Miraflores from above, which despite the grey skies and polluted air looked quite beautiful. We didn’t fly around much, but spent most of the 10 minutes just floating in the air trying to gain altitude, so I used that spare time to ask my instructor all about Miraflores and his incredible job!

When it was time to land, we hadn’t caught enough altitude to land at the starting point above the cliffs, so instead my instructor decided it was safer to land near the ocean on a small grass field. The landing was quick and extremely smooth, which surprised me as I was expecting some bumps!

From the beach, we caught a taxi which the paragliding company paid for and then went the long way back to the starting point. Because it took so much extra time than the three others, Brandon and Vibeke, who had been filming the four of us from the ground, were worried about me, but I was perfectly fine and happy after a great experience above Miraflores!
