Discovering cheap flight tickets from Malmö suddenly had me headed to Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia, in early February 2018. Despite only having time for a quick weekend trip because of uni responsibilities, I couldn’t turn down cheap tickets, especially considering how cheap it also is to travel within North Macedonia.
So with only two full days in the country, I had to be effective. I decided to spend just one day in Skopje before heading to Ohrid for a day, so I could also experience a bit of the countryside from the train, and see the most famous church in the country.
The weather wasn’t really on my side during this trip. It did stay mostly dry on my day in Skopje and I was able to enjoy the beautiful city with its many marble monuments, but I got absolutely drenched in Ohrid.
Ohrid is a popular summer destination due to its location by Lake Ohrid, and all the pictures I’d ever seen of the city featured a bright blue sky. So I never imagined rain and wind for Ohrid, but boy did I get it!
Still, I somehow managed to actually have a great time in Ohrid and get to see what I wanted, although I couldn’t even begin to imagine what it’s like there in the summer.
