Total solar eclipse 2015 on the Faroe Islands

I experienced the Total Solar Eclipse!!

Just 5 hours ago, Regin and I were standing outside Hotel Føroyar in Tórshavn, waiting (impatiently) for the Total Solar Eclipse that would only be visible from Faroe Islands and Svalbard.

Unfortunately, it was veeeeery cloudy, so we knew that the chances of seeing it were slim, so we weren’t too disappointed when the total eclipse came and we couldn’t see it. Experiencing the total darkness that covered Tórshavn for 2 minutes with the birds singing and streetlights coming on was simply astonishing and the most exciting experience in my life, no doubt! We were lucky enough to see the partial eclipse on both sides of the full eclipse. Once the full eclipse was over, the sky cleared, so we had a great view of the partial eclipse for an hour.

Yesterday, Regin and Erling had got me some welding glass that I could use to protect my camera lens, so I was able to take pictures for the whole process of the eclipse. Both me and Regin took some great photos, but next time, I want to see the actual full eclipse and take some photos of that! And yes, there will definitely be a next time!

This was my first ever total eclipse, but it definitely won’t be my last! I’m already getting very excited for the Total Lunar Eclipse on September 28th this year, which will be visible in Europe!! And when I get back from the journey that I’m currently on, I want to start planning my next Total Solar Eclipse adventure, which (hopefully) will be in either Indonesia in 2016 or in USA in 2017.

A Total Solar Eclipse is such a magical experience that I think every human being should see at some time in their life – it’s worth it.
