Cableway at Opalsøen on Bornholm

While on Bornholm this summer, I wanted to see just about everything. But I also wanted to try new adventurous and exciting things. That’s why I decided to try the cableway at Opalsøen on the first Sunday.

I’ve travelled a lot. I’ve been to over 50 countries. I’ve climbed countless mountains, even Mount Kinabalu at 4.095 metres. I’ve walked across glaciers, biked through a country, even stepped foot inside Afghanistan. But I haven’t tried many of the typical I’m-so-brave-and-cool travel activities such as bungee jumping, skydiving, surfing in shark-infested waters, river rafting, rappelling etc. Mainly because I’m a budget traveller and those activities are very expensive!

But this cableway activity on Bornholm only cost 150 DKK, and with the others counting on me to do it, I simply couldn’t say no.

The cableway is 50 metres high and 290 metres long and can get up to 70 km/h. It doesn’t sound that crazy, and at first I wasn’t one bit scared, but jumping off that cliff took some serious guts. Guts that I didn’t have. Instead,  I asked the instructor to push me and off I was! It didn’t last for many seconds, but it was such a thrilling experience!

Also, it was cool to do something like that in such a beautiful location! Opalsøen, which is one of the oldest quarries on Bornholm, is one of my favourite spots on the island!

Below is a video that I’ve put together from the videos my friends took of me from four different angles! Don’t mind my non-existent editing skills and enjoy!

This definitely won’t be the last time I’ll be flying through the air! I dream of skydiving over the Faroe Islands one day… Imagine the views!
