Georgia had been on my travel wishlist for years, and in 2021, during a six-month break from work, I finally made it happen. I had fifteen days and ambitiously planned to see both Georgia and Armenia in that time. Spoiler: that was never going to be enough.
Sure, I could’ve rushed through both countries, but once I arrived in Tbilisi, I knew I wanted to slow down and dig deeper. I made the right call: I postponed Armenia (except for a quick stop in Yerevan to catch my flight home) and spent all fifteen days immersed in Georgia. I didn’t regret it for a second.
Just two days in, I met a group of amazing travellers on the terrace of Envoy Hostel, and we ended up exploring the country together. We dove deep into Tbilisi’s charm, hiked above the iconic Gergeti Trinity Church, got lost in the streets of Kutaisi, visited Gelati and Motsameta Monasteries, relaxed in a natural sulphur pool, explored an abandoned Soviet sanatorium, wandered through a limestone cave, and embarked on a wild ride to Mestia, the heart of Upper Svaneti. There, we completed a four-day hike through some of the most stunning mountain scenery I’ve ever encountered. We capped the trip with a visit to Mtskheta, Georgia’s ancient spiritual capital.
Georgia is so beautiful, it gives even Kyrgyzstan a run for its money. I already dream of going back – there’s still so much more to discover.
