Merry Christmas from Denmark

Untitled 1

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Christmas is the one time of the year that I don’t want to be travelling. I cherish the time I have at home with my family and Christmas is one of those cozy times that I just don’t want to miss out on. My travel schedule has been busy this year; I just came back from Australia two weeks ago and on New Years Eve, I’ll be jetting off to Ireland. That’s pretty much how it’s been all year, and I love that, but it also means that I didn’t get to spend much time with my family.

My family is half Danish and half English, so when my brothers and I were younger, we used to celebrate Christmas the Danish way one year and the English way the next year. I love both, but in recent years, we have only celebrated it the Danish way, on December 24th, and since we are spending Christmas at home with only our family this year, we chose to try the English way once again. Danish Christmas is lovely, but everything is over in one day.

In England, Christmas is mainly celebrated on December 25th, where we wake up to breakfast and gifts under the tree to be unwrapped. We then eat the big Christmas dinner at noon and have the rest of the day ahead of us with no rush, just time to relax and have fun with the family.

The one thing that we will do today – on December 24th – is the traditional Christmas service at the church. We always go to Gylling Kirke and they have a midnight service every year, which is extremely cozy. This is a tradition that I hope will never change. So today, at 23.30, we’ll be going to Gylling Kirke and tomorrow, we’ll wake up for an extra day of Christmas with presents, good food and cozy times.

Next year, we will probably go back to spending Christmas the Danish way, but I am so excited to spend it the English way this year for the first time in many years.

I wish all of my beautiful readers and everyone else in the world a wonderful and magical Christmas with their loved ones.

xx Mel

“the Danish way one year and the English way the next year” – so lovely. I think all that matter is to be with your loved ones. Merry Christmas to you, too <3

I definitely agree! Christmas is the one time that being home is the only place I want to be, unless my family travels with me ?
Thank you, Monica! Hope you had a lovely evening xx
